Wonder what inspired the designer pieces you have recently purchased and are coveting for autumn? Mini skirt-style hemlines, coloblocking, classic shapes, funky fur. Mod, baby!
Katie knows that Mary Quant and André Courréges were a couple of the top fashion designers who pioneered these styles during the Swinging Sixties in London.
Courréges’ colorblock dresses.
Quant made the mini skirt all the rage. The advent of the mini changed the stockings world, too. Women needed thicker tights to wear with their short dresses and skirts. So away went sheer stockings with their belts and hooks and snaps. Seamless tights in bright colors ruled. Liberation of legs and lace!
It’s obvious the Swinging Sixties-style serves as inspiration for this season’s designs.

The preferred footwear in the Swinging Sixties was a knee-high or above-knee flat boot or Dr. Scholl’s clog. Seem familiar?
There are so many other ways designers have been inspired by the 1960s for this season’s looks: brightly colored furs, bell-bottom jeans, shift dresses and leather gloves with big cut-outs to expose the back of your hand.
