What I Bought at Knit Wit Today

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

I stopped by the Center City Knit Wit today to peruse the latest and greatest for spring. After a lovely picnic lunch (sandwiches from Metropolitan Bakery – yum!) with my gorgeous sister Kerry in Rittenhouse Square, we couldn’t help but pop into the store to pick out a few new items from the back room.

You’ve seen the Center City fashionistas starting to rock bright-colored denim. Here’s wear to find the best selection! AG, Closed, J BRAND and more. You also need a fresh pair of white jeans and some sweet new t’s for summer:

The Do’s and Don’ts of Jorts

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011
Jean shorts (jorts) can be hot and sexy on one woman, and dangerously scary on another.  Most of us have probably straddled that line in summers past.  Katie knows you must understand the do’s and don’ts of denim shorts in order to pull them off this summer.  Here’s the 411:

Kate Walsh shows us how it’s done in her Citizens of Humanity cut-offs, super cute summer wedges and easy, breezy blouse.

Denise Richards shows us how a mother of two can rock cut-offs.  These are the right length with a peak-a-boo pocket and I love the grey super-soft t-shirt and tan leather tote.

While we may not agree with all her choices in life, Lindsay Lohan shows us how
pairing jean shorts with a crisp white shirt will work every single time.
It’s a classic, chic summer look!

Citizens of Humanity “Rebel High Rise”
offers sleek high-waisted jean cut-offs.

When I say denim shorts I’m obviously not talking about those “Mom shorts” that make everyone cringe. Thanks to some incredible new, modern styles, women and mothers of all ages are embracing slimming, sleek jean shorts that show off your stems and help you stay cool. I recently fell in love with Citizens of Humanity’s little denim cut-offs “Boogie Shorts” at KNIT WIT. Citizens of Humanity is offering a ton of different denim short styles for summer.

I picked up a pair of J Brand “The Cut-Off Short Low Rise” at KNIT WIT on Walnut Street this week. It’s a darker jean short with five pockets – just like my favorite pair of jeans. Cut-offs are an important staple in my summer wardrobe because I can take them from the city to shore without missing a beat. But with any pair of shorts, it was imperative that these fit me right and only show off my legs. No matter how gorgeous your tush is, it should NEVER be seen peeking out of your shorts.

I don’t care if you are a skinny supermodel in Malibu – I don’t want to see your cheeks!

In addition to denim shorts, I’ve noticed a lot of olive, khaki-colored and beachy blue shorts as of late.  These colors are soft and can be neutral when pairing with lots of different patterns and colors.  The J Brand “Military Patch Pocket Shorts” at KNIT WIT are khaki-colored shorts – like a cargo short but without all that bulk and side pockets that make you look like you’re smuggling loaves of bread on your hips.  James Perse super-lux cotton drawstring shorts come in a variety of soft colors like the blue First Lady Michelle Obama recently wore.

First Lady Michelle Obama wears a pair of blue, cuffed shorts deplaning Air Force One to complete her comfortable, casual summer look.  Her legs look great!

The perils of shorts can be plenty.  Let’s look at some more no-no’s.
Hilary Duff gets the cut-off shorts ALL WRONG
here with white heels and a wonky fly.

You’ve got to have the right footwear or your shorts will look all wrong!  The Margate KNIT WIT has some incredible new shoes that pair well with shorts.  Brand new DVF heels will make your legs look dynamo but I also love wearing funky summer sandals and clogs with mine.  The Knit Wit in Margate, NJ is exclusively offering a variety of amazing Calleen Cordero shoes, including the Platinum Metallic Karma 1/2 Foam Sandal or Claudia 2 Metallic Gunmetal Leather Clog.  WAY better than these white nightmares Hilary is wearing with her cut-offs.

Vanessa Hudgens short, cuffed jean shorts
look a little too small.

Whether you are a size 2 or 12 there’s never an excuse for your buttons to look like they are going to pop!  If you look to your right, a thin woman’s fly looks like it’s trying to break out of jail.  This is a sure fire way to look terrible.
And with a multitude of layers and thigh-high boots Katie knows you’d sweat your ass off wearing Vanessa Hudgens‘ outfit in July.

Sure, Jessica Simpson is heavier today than her Daisy Duke days, but she’s no fatty.  Why does she look like a stuffed sausage?!  Never buy shorts that cut into your thighs!  A little longer and a size up and Jessica would look Cali-casual and cuter.

Katie knows jorts and shorts can be scary if you don’t understand how to wear them. But take my advice and your stems will look fab all summer long!

Kisses,
Katie

Summer Closet Cleaning

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

How was your Memorial Day weekend? Mine was fabulous, merci. Lots of amazing sunshine on the South Jersey beach and I had two new pairs of Elizabeth and James sunglasses to ensure I looked hot while protecting my eyes.

I picked up the new shades at the KNIT WIT Margate trunk show over the weekend. Ahhhhh… trunk shows. Elizabeth and James. Delightful.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I instructed you to clean out your closet? Did you listen to me? Katie knows that those winter clothes still hanging up front are taking precious space away from your new, gorgeous sun dresses. And, this is totally hindering your ability to fully embrace summer.

After basking in the sun of the long, holiday weekend, you now have one mission: Clean. Out. Your. Closet! It’s really quite necessary after you hit up the Theory trunk store at the KNIT WIT Margate last weekend. Not only is it time to store away your winter pieces, but reevaluate your summer clothes. That cute skirt from two years ago? It’s dead. Give it to Goodwill. The stretched-out halter dress that you always feel hot in? Replace it with a vibrant T-Bags number from KNIT WIT and PLAGE TAHITI. Your white jeans are looking dull and that cut isn’t doing it for you anymore. Update your summer staples at KNIT WIT and PLAGE and respect them by treating them right in your closet.

Now I’m going to be brutally honest: if you use wire hangers, we have a problem. It’s not because I aspire to be Mommy Dearest, rather, it’s difficult for me to not judge someone who doesn’t take care her clothes. Our clothes are a reflection of ourselves. What does it say about one’s self-worth if your clothes are hanging like drowned spaghetti, being pulled and misshaped over terrible wire hangers? The way your clothes hang in your closet is the way they will hang on you. Invest in some nice, hangers – either traditional cloth hangers or the ones that have a little fabric grip to them so your dainty fabrics won’t slip. These can get expensive, sure. But you can also find a pack of 10 for $10 at a discount store. You love your clothes – take care of them and feel good about yourself!

While this all may seem like a chore, Katie knows you are going to actually enjoy the process of cleaning out your closet. It feels so good to bag up and donate older items that don’t fit or don’t do you justice and add new, fresh, inspirational pieces that will have you feeling good for the season. Hold onto all the amazing memories you made while wearing your old clothes, and pass those duds along to someone in need. While you’re at it, get those winter wools the hell out of sight. Don’t make me come back and check your hangers!

Kisses,

Katie

Swimsuit Season at KNIT WIT Margate

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Ok, ladies. Are you ready?!  Memorial Day Weekend is almost here!

I know it can be a bit daunting to peel off all those winter layers and let the sun shine in, but summer is the season for swimming, sunning and enjoying the warm weather. You simply can’t do that in a turtleneck! Whether you are hitting the shore, pool or lakes, you need some fabulous swimsuits this summer.

Good thing my friends at KNIT WIT in Margate, NJ have the BEST selection of designer swimsuits in the region. Run there, ladies! These designer suits are coveted by the Philly’s fashionistas, moi included. Besides, your legs could use the extra lift before you bare them in the sand and surf.

No matter your size, shape or age, KNIT WIT in Margate has the perfect bathing suit for you. Mother of 3 in Ocean City? They’ve got you covered. Recent grad? They’ve got the hottest beach trends that will keep you in-style from the new Arrow Swim Club to the Hamptons. First summer on the beach with your grandkids? KNIT WIT in Margate has your suit, sarong and oversized hat. The selection is simply unmatched!

Love these high-waisted retro bottoms!

I just picked up two new Marc Jacobs suits while they were all being sold at PLAGE TAHITI on 17th Street in Center City (the suits were downtown for a few weeks for those of us who are super serious about summer suit preparation, before they were moved to KNIT WIT in Margate). The unique cuts and styles offer some really sexy bikini options and I simply love the bright, vibrant colors and patterns that I get when I buy Marc. The blend of vintage-inspired prints and modern designs make me feel awesome when I’m on the beach, walking the boards or lounging on the porch reading the paper. When I’m at the beach, I live in a bathing suit and my suits are always fabulous. The selection at KNIT WIT ensures it!

In addition to Marc suits, KNIT WIT in Margate is carrying swimwear by Latarte, ViX, amazing one-piece Karla Colletto’s, Lisa Curran, Trina Turk, Melissa Odabash, Luli Fama, Paul Smith and Phillip Lim. This year, we are seeing a lot of younger women opt for one-piece suits that still boast a healthy dose of sex appeal. Many of these designers are offering incredible one-piece suits that will flatter and accentuate every woman in all the right places.

You’ll feel so comfortable trying on and picking up your new swimsuits for summer because KNIT WIT in Margate has the selection to accommodate every woman’s preferences. Whether you want a flattering one-piece, a sexy tank with a plunging neckline or an itty bitty bikini, KNIT WIT in Margate, NJ on Atlantic Ave. has you covered for the season. Katie knows you’ll thank her for the tip.

Kisses,

Katie

New Blog from KNIT WIT: Katie Knows

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Before we get too cozy, let’s make sure you are in the right place. You need to know that I’m a bit particular about my clothes. My shoes. My bags. Pretty much everything. It’s not that I’m a perfectionist; I just like really nice things that fit well and feel great. I like soft supple European leather; I love cashmere. I simply adore the little DVF sun dress I’m wearing, at present. But then really, who wouldn’t?

If we are going to talk fashion, we should set some ground rules. Because I take fashion really seriously. This blog will be a place where I’ll share the latest trends, styles and designs from the Knit Wit’s three stores (Philadelphia + Bryn Mawr, Pa.; Margate, NJ) and its sister store, Plage Tahiti, located in Center City Philadelphia. Knit Wit and Plage Tahiti are my go-to for everything I need for every day, for every occasion. When someone asks me where I bought my fabulous Haute Hippie cardigan, my stunning DVF cocktail dress or my sparkly Alexis Bittar earrings, I never have to hesitate to respond. Everything I wear is from Knit Wit and Plage. Right down to my Hanky Pankys. Katie knows where to shop.

Here’s an important question: did you switch your closet, winter to summer? The heat can’t sneak up on you anymore; it’s time to retire the heavy fabrics and lighten up! Pull out your springtime favorites and take stock of what you’ll need to add. Like, white jeans. When you are sporting that spring sunshine glow, it’s the perfect time to whip out those white skinny jeans with a bright, fun Michael Starrs tank. You’ll look and feel great. Do you have your Summer 2011 bikinis? They will only be at Plage for a few more days and then you can shop their designer swimsuits at the Knit Wit Margate. This is important: have you purchased your spring wedge, yet? (I hope they were in neutrals with a pop of metallic.) Because that wedge is going to look so hot with a super long, summer dress – reminiscent of flower power in sleek, sexy modern styles. You need to know: women of any height can wear long dresses and skirts. Which are SO in right now! Come by the store and they will put you in an A.L.C. number that will blow you away!

If you’ve got a copy of WWD in your bag, and your bag was handmade in Italy, then we are friends. If you seek information and insights on the world of fashion and Philadelphia’s fierce fashion scene, you’re in the right place.

Kisses,

Katie
