Paul Smith Fall 2012 RTW Favs

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Sir Paul Smith just showed his fall 2012 RTW and Katie knows some of his menswear-inspired looks are meant to be staples in your closet this autumn.

Sleek, skinny pants paired with tailored little jackets or double breasted overcoats; plaid paired with plaid; a healthy dose of velvet and some killer dresses! Here are my favorites from the Paul Smith new collection:

A classic fall ensemble with the unmistakable Paul Smith twist.

20120221-233919.jpg

The un-lady suit. To die for.

20120221-234002.jpg

An incredible little black wrap dress with pocket square!

20120221-234052.jpg

We’ve seen a bit of this mustard color – so retro and rich – throughout the recent NYFW shows.

And this gorgeous blue! Can’t go wrong with the perfect sweater+skirt combo.

20120221-234256.jpg

Plaid on plaid. Love the neck of the sweater and the different hues.

Ann Gitter always says, a tight turtleneck can be so sexy. Here’s the proof!

Loving this striped maxi with belt.

The Knit Wit has the best Paul Smith selection around and just got a huge shipment of brand new pieces including these (not just for men) new cuff links:

A.L.C. Fall 2012 RTW Fav Looks

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

Katie knows the Knit Wit’s Ann Gitter can always spot a fabulous designer. The incredible line A.L.C. by Andrea Lieberman has been carried at my favorite boutique since it was born in 2008.

It’s always fresh and interesting while still classic and chic. I was thrilled when I saw pics of the new designs! Here are some of my favorite looks from A.L.C.‘s fall 2012 RTW collection shown at NYFW:

20120221-194926.jpg

This mustardy color is featured throughout the collection, paired with black, grays and patterns.

20120221-195807.jpg

Obsessed with these leather legging pants in both burgundy and black. And this coat, OMG!

20120221-195901.jpg

Sweet sweaters with a modern Fair Isle paired with short skirts.

20120221-200032.jpg

So Mad Men! I love the short sleeves.

20120221-200334.jpg

The sexy version of the ensemble directly above. This may be too hot for the office!

20120221-200806.jpg

The colors of this maxi dress are subdued yet striking. Pair it with a chunky cardigan for a perfect autumn look.

20120221-201037.jpg

I am going to seriously need this coat!

I just picked up the most chic black jumpsuit by A.L.C. at Plage Tahiti – for 80% off! And, the Knit Wit has a huge A.L.C. selection to hold you over until these fabulous fall pieces arrive.

Katie

Trendspotting: Tux-inspiration

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

We’ve seen women rock (or sometimes fail – remember Celine Dion?!) a female version of the classic tuxedo.

Marlene Dietrich in the 1920′s: wearing a tux was taboo then; today, it’s the smoking that’s surprising.

This season, designers have been inspired by the tux, offering women chic pieces which are variations on the James Bond-esque style.  This isn’t a new trend, but it sure is hot right now.  Many female celebrities love wearing tux-inspired pieces:

Jennifer Aniston compliments her sexy look with a tux-like jacket.

Keira Knightly looks fantastic in her tux-inspired suit, pictured with Sienna Miller.

Katie knows you’ll be best suited not wearing tux-inspired pieces to a black tie event but rock this look instead at events like cocktail parties.

Paired with its sequined mini, this Haute Hippie white silk blouse is perfection (both available at the Knit Wit).

Katie

Halloween Costume Help from the Knit Wit

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Katie knows you have no idea what you are going to wear for Halloween. As you’re deciding whether to get dressed up a little, either with your kids or out for this Saturday night, consider this: Knit Wit has the pieces you need for fall and winter AND you’re going to look like one of your favorite film stars when wearing them.

Years ago, I convinced my Mom that I needed a trench coat to dress up as Audrey Hepburn’s Holly for Halloween. She consented. I didn’t wear my Breakfast at Tiffany’s costume that year, but I’ve worn that trench religiously ever since.

Leighton Meester shows off her Breakfast with Tiffany’s trench-style:

Need an excuse to buy that little red Halston Heritage dress you’ve seen at the Bryn Mawr store? Channel Alicia Silverstone’s Cher on Halloween with a white feather boa.

Love wearing menswear? Grab your guy’s tie, pick up a gorgeous white Equipment blouse that you’ll wear forever and a fab Paul Smith blazer a la Diane Keaton’s Annie.

If you’re going to dress up for Halloween this year, wear something chic and fashionable that you’ll continue wearing through the seasons. Katie knows you won’t regret the photos this year!

Kisses,
Katie

New Fall Arrivals: what to wear for work!

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Katie knows that your work attire is an important component to your fall wardrobe. With the after-office parties picking up post-Labor Day, it’s important to look great at work so you’re super fab when grabbing drinks at Serafina (without running home to change).

Here, local fashion blogger and FOKW (Friend of Knit Wit) Dara Tye Goldstein models some chic new skirts and blouses for fall.

In early autumn, it’s fun to show off your tan stems and play with color!

Pleated, high-waisted skirt by Jil Sanders brand new line: Jil Sanders Navy
Silk blouse by Tucker
Gold necklace and bracelet by Janis Savitt

Leather is always incredible when the temps start to drop. This autumn-hued leather skirt has a sexy exposed zipper in the back.
Skirt by Sachin + Babi
Silk blouse by A.L.C.
Necklace by Ankasa
Beaded clutch with embellishment by Moyna

The NEWEST Perfect-Fit Jeans for Autumn

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

It can be hard to find a pair of jeans that fit perfectly.  But with September approaching, you best be prepared with some new denim.  Some of my favorites for the upcoming season:

Kate Middleton wearing J BRAND 811 Mid-Rise Skinny Leg in Navy Twill.

J BRAND 811 Mid-Rise Skinny Leg  in aubergine (deep plum) is my newest pair for fall.

The new Mrs. Humphries wearing 7 For All Mankind Pocket Fit Flare Jeans.

One of the fall trends KNIT WIT and PLAGE TAHITI owner and head buyer Ann Gitter is talking about is bell bottom, boot cut jeans that are thin through the thighs.

Like the J BRAND 1119 Bailey Jean.

Cameron Diaz in AG The Stilt jeans.  A lighter, distressed denim – great with flats!

All of these brands and many more amazing denim lines are available at KNIT WIT and PLAGE TAHITI.  Plus, the professional stylists at the stores will ensure you get the perfect fit from their endless selection!

Katie knows that every day there are ill-advised women who wear denim all wrong.  Let’s learn from their mistakes.

Two-Sizes Too-Small: the dreamer.  I don’t care how much it may pain you to look at the size on the tag, do not buy a small pair of jeans just to feel better about your waistline.  Katie knows you should buy the right size instead of your dream size (and the “right size” is different for all of us).

Oh-No Too-Low: the delusional.  I don’t care how hot you think you look, if I can see any part of your stomach rolling across the top of your jeans you’ve made a major life mistake.  Katie knows that low-rise jeans are not for everyone.  All women have a natural waistline: flatter it!

Ye Old Jeans: the outdated.  I don’t care if they still fit after a decade, if your fav jeans are as old as Justin Bieber, it’s time to retire them.  Katie knows that denim is a classic trend, but the shades, shapes and styles fluctuate.  Not to mention after washing and wearing for years, jeans will shrink.  Unless you’re a freak of nature, your waistline is probably doing the opposite.

Kisses,

Katie

Reflections on the DVF Fall Line

Thursday, August 11th, 2011

The KNIT WIT has been blessed with racks and racks of the new fall line from Diane von Furstenberg.  If you are like me, you’ve been looking, longingly, at the pieces you picked up last week in Center City and Bryn Mawr, waiting for the autumn temperatures to allow for wearing them.  If you were silly enough to miss the trunk show in Pennsylvania, not to worry!  It’s at the KNIT WIT in Margate, NJ through Sunday, August 14th!

Ms. von Furstenberg has given us some new and classic dress styles to rock in the coming months.  There’s a lot of bright blues and greens paired with muted retro colors like cranberry, gold and chocolate.  And the patterned dresses are obvious DVF with a new flair.  She’s offering some killer pants, skirts and tops but Katie knows every woman needs a selection of DVF dresses in her closet.

Here’s a sampling of what you need for fall:

Aurora Mini Dress in Red Spice.

Golda Dress in Indian Daisy: snap closures, self-belt, and slit pockets!

New Tunis Dress in Liquid Blue.

Ahadahy Dress.

Rigmore Striped Dress – nearly 50% wool, super soft knit.

Addison Embossed Ostrich Tote in Emerald – must-have bag for fall!

Stop into the KNIT WIT to check out these amazing pieces and more!

Katie
