Every time you pull your favorite silk blouse out of the never-ending plastic from your drycleaner, you know it’s going to be a good day. Because no matter how bloated or frumpy we are feeling, a silk blouse will force us to feel feminine, pretty and sophisticated.
Three designers are really getting the silk blouse right this summer: Ramy Brook (the newbie), Tucker (the obvious) and Equipment (the signature). All available at KNIT WIT!
Ramy Brook has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Its “Harriet” Top can be worn four different ways! It comes in a bunch of great colors but I’m partial to the purple hue, above. And check out that sweet, sunny yellow!
Visit the KNIT WIT Facebook page to see some gorgeous local ladies modeling this great top!
Designer Ramy Sharp says her clothes are meant to be “sexy, sophisticated and simple” and these blush-hued silk blouses are no exception! See how elegantly-causal these tops are when paired with olive and white pants/shorts? And wait until you see how nicely these blouses will transition to autumn! Silk shirts look great layered under blazers and chunky sweaters.
Tucker by Gaby Basora gives a fashion-forward woman with bohemian style a lot to play with. Lots of colors, lots of patterns and lots of room (without looking like you are hiding a beer gut). Its spring 2011 line offers new prints and patterns for its beloved silk shirt, The Blouse. This classic blouse has been worn and adored by celebrities and fashionistas for years and I am going nuts over the new colors for summer. The new pattern, above, with its Native American-inspired print and neutrals with pops of turquoise and red is one of my new favorites.

The Tucker Cream/Black Polka Dot Combo Print Blouse would look stunning with a black pencil skirt or a bright mini and these super hot Bone Leona Chiffon Pumps by Elizabeth and James, which I just bought at the KNIT WIT Margate store. Or, pair it with some slimming capris and fun flats. If you prefer to keep your arms covered, a long-sleeved silk blouse is the perfect fix for a hot summer day!
Here’s Jessica Simpson wearing a classic Tucker “Paris metro ride blouse with tie” in 2009. The Tucker blouse will remain a long-time staple in your wardrobe (even as besties come and go)!
The Equipment Signature Blouse is so pretty and versatile. It creates a nice silhouette without ANY clinging. I love rolling the sleeves up and wearing mine untucked and flowing. The double breasted pockets add a dash of masculinity to this girly blouse.
Khloe Kardashian tucks her black Equipment Signature Blouse in for a look that could go from office to shopping to drinks. With her summer-chic hat and brown-hued accessories, this is a great look for Khloe whether she’s in New York, Miami or L.A.
Katie knows you need one example of what NOT to do with a silk blouse. Leave it to singer-extraordinaire Christina Aguilera, who shows us the perils of a tight animal print Mui Mui blouse with peek-a-boo red bra, short flared skirt and studded belt. Yikes! If she closed more buttons and paired this blouse with a pencil skirt or wide-legged trousers, she’d look far more chic and professional.
Kisses,
Katie
